For those of us living in Arizona, we realize what a great state it is. One prime example: Phoenix Valley offers assistance to those struggling economically.
With the cost
of groceries these day, I found this very cool deal….St. Mary’s Food Bank Club is offering groceries worth $100+ for $30. No identification is required - these food packages are open to everyone! No proof of citizenship, income, identification are required. Go to ABC15.news for detailed information online. I’ve included some of the information from their website below.
“Pantry Package, $13: includes 14 to 16 meal staples, such as canned vegetables and fruit, pasta and
beans.
Meat Package, $16-$20: includes four to five meat items, such as pork chops, beef patties and chicken breasts.
If you buy both the pantry and meat packages combined it will cost just $30 and you will get two bonus boxes, which includes the donated surplus items.”
There are three of these food banks located in our Phoenix west valley. I’ve provided a list with addresses and times as well as a link to the website for additional information:
Have additional questions? Contact the foodvalueclub@firstfoodbank.org or (602) 415-5474, or log onto to their website at http://firstfoodbank.org/.
Be sure to contact each location for additional information.

Just heard on the news that our population grew in excess of 100,000 in 2006-2007, and we now have around 3.5 million people. As a Realtor, this does not surprise me in the lease. Why wouldn’t anyone want to live in Arizona? Just this week I’ve spoken and met with people from Michigan and Connecticut and Canada. They want to have a place to live during the winter months. It’s funny. I tell them how cold our winter has been and they just chuckle. I’ve included an excerpt from the Arizona Republic which will come out tomorrow:
“The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Maricopa County had a net gain of about 102,000 people from July 1, 2006, to July 1, 2007, for the biggest numeric gain of any county in the country. Pinal County gained an estimated 30,930 residents during that period and was the nation’s third-fastest growing county with an increase of 11.5 percent. Seventy of the 100 fastest-growing counties from 2006-07 were in the South, with 22 in the West and eight in the Midwest. The Census Bureau also estimates Maricopa County had the largest number of new residents from 2000 to 2007, adding 808,000 people. Pinal County was the fourth fastest growing county in the country during the time, growing 66.5 percent from 179,715 residents to 299,246. ”
Give me a call…….I’ll show you some great communities and homes!

Beginning on May 1, 2008, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport will charge $5 for overnight parking. The airport is expanding its services, and the $5 fees will enable it to generate substantial income to better serve the airport.

As a child, I remember our family building a large basement home (yes that’s right a basement) around 35th Sreet and McDowell Roads. My dad purchased an acre of land, and built a huge home. You see, there were eight children, so we needed lots of room. BUT to begin with, he built a basement with two bedrooms, one bath and a kitchen/family room combination. That’s where we lived until my brother was born who was number six. Yep, two parents, six children living in about 1000 square feet. Two sets of bunk beds in one bedroom, another bed across the top, and a crib in my parent’s room.
Today, things can be a bit different. You see, I grew up in Phoenix in the 50’s. I actually walked a mile to school - yep, I did. And our mom would drop us off downtown to see movies and cartoons. I think a quarter covered the movies, and popcorn and drinks. Now - those were the days.
Phoenix has grown in the last 50 years spreading out almost to Florence, past Mesa, past Tempe, and Queen Creek. This is a great place to live and raise your families.

For 70 years, on the grounds of the Mesa Temple, an Easter pageant has been presented. The work behind the scenes is amazing and requires many donated hours of labor and time. The finale of the pageant is not to be missed. It is a beautiful and spiritual experience.
One of the special events this year is held in the Visitor’s Center - one that everyone should make time to visit - a gallery of photographs (mostly black and white) - amazing photographs. After viewing the photographs, there is a short film showing the viewer just how the photos were taken. It is beautiful and awesome. You will want to go back and see the photos again after seeing the short film.
The Visitor’s Center is closed on Sunday, and it will be more and more crowded as Easter nears. Try and go in the afternoon - say one or two o’clock.
